We recently engaged Mike Elward to deliver "invest for success" to some of the upcoming leaders withing the Guernsey Therapy Group. Leadership training is often requested by the team and we were looking at some training that offered both theory and practical application that would also be relevant to the field of healthcare. This training certainly delivered.

The delivery was excellent- engaging professional and well paced throughout. The style was both interactive and inclusive, encouraging participation and reflection which really helped reinforce the learning. We had differing staff experience on the course and it was relevant to all involved and they all gained some insight. We were particularly impressed at Mike's ability to adapt the training to the field of physiotherapy. He had clearly researched and come up with real life scenarios that the team could relate to and were very likely to occur in our area of work.

Although Mike's background is not in healthcare, it was clear to see that he put a lot of time and effort into understanding the healthcare system and hierarchies involved. This allowed him to create tailored scenarios which aligned with our day-to-day workload and problems that we encounter within healthcare. Mike has a good way of conceptualising existing leadership and management models into a bite-sized and relatable context, which then fits in with his bespoke scenarios to form a complete lesson. Mike showed a genuine interest in our different job roles and showed appreciation for the different working style we adopt compared to other professions. He was able to use the information given to prompt discussion in areas we may have not otherwise considered. Sessions encouraged open discussion and challenged pre-existing assumptions. Team members were encouraged to share and debate, which improved our group cohesion by the end of the course.

In all, Mike provided an enthusiastic form of teaching, encouraging active participation as well as integrating important leadership and management models in a relatable context to our work. He was non-judgemental, approachable and showed a high level of interest in us as individuals throughout the course. I would recommend completing a course with Mike to build the foundational skills required if you are looking to progress into a management or leadership pathway.

We (Aspida) chose to work with Mike as I had previously seen him teach in an educational setting and knew how engaging and effective his approach is.
